Nine Popes Stelvin 2006 is in the Bordeaux style with classic tannin structures. There is a hint of the trademark musk that denotes its Grenache heritage which combines with the earth and spice of the Shiraz and Mataro varieties to give complexity. Swirl this in your mouth to release other flavours - aniseed, sweet liquorice, cinnamon.
The Charles Melton melange of techniques is employed: whole bunch fermentation with destemmed uncrushed fruit. A higher percentage of French oak (65% of which 20% was new oak) was used to add the lovely cedar notes on the nose. Oak aged for 20 months, the wine was then blended amd given a light filtration to bottling.
