Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

While the name may twist tongues, the unusual mix of grapes offers a rich array of fruit flavours to inspire the most jaded palate. Crisp and fresh, it completes the puzzle and gives you something to ponder while you wrestle with Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Viognier. The ever dependable bargain from one of McLaren Vale?s most renowned cellars, a riper style with stone fruits and apple flavours, a little oak, and a layer of herbals and wheatgrass!

The Scrubby Rise vineyard (which is ironically flat and without scrub) supplies the name as well as most of the Semillon that goes into this blend. Located directly in front of the Wirra Wirra?s century old ironstone cellars, it's marvellous soils enable it to produce some of the best fruit from season to season. Smaller parcels of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier were sourced from the cooler region of the Adelaide Hills. Approximately 10% of the blend was fermented and matured in French oak barriques. Quite rare in its varietal composition, the final assemblage has been chosen to produce a wine that displays balance, elegance, complexity, and structure. Alcohol 13.5%

Colour is a light straw with green tinges. Vibrant tropical and citrus fruits with nuances of granny smith apples and fresh kiwi fruit. The Viognier adds a touch of orange blossom and floral notes. Fresh lemon and limes couple with passionfruit and melons to give weight and intensity on the palate. The zesty acid gives the wine vibrancy and a crisp lengthy finish.
Suggestion: salmon and sour cream terrine with fresh fennel and chives.
