Wynns Gables Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz

Wynns Coonawarra Estate was the first winery to be established in Coonawarra, by John Riddoch in 1896. The winery is located on the world famous strip of 'Terra Rossa' soil that produces fruit of an exceptionally high quality, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. For more than 50 years the heritage listed winery and its famous gables have been a feature of Wynns labels. During that time the gables have become a distinctive mark of exceptional Coonawarra quality. The Gables has all the characters of a classic Wynns wine. Selected small parcels of premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz have created a full-bodied yet supple wine. Its fine balance of tannin, dark fruits and integrated oak make it an ideal accompaniment at lunch or dinner.

Vintage Conditions

A dry, warm winter promoted good bud burst followed by a spring with limited frost concerns, which meant overall vine health was excellent. January was hot and dry, tempered by a cool February that steadied ripening. Warm weather at harvest ensured full flavour development. Harvest was over by 19 April.

Maturation

The wine spent 16 months in a mix of seasoned and new French and American oak barrels.

Colour

Deep red with garnet edges.

Nose

Lifted plums and dark berry fruit, backed by subtle mint and cedary oak.

Palate

Up-front blackberry Cabernet fruit is followed by juicy berry Shiraz. Chocolate/Mocha-like oak fills out the seams finishing with fine grained tannins.
